Nicky Morgan, The Rt Hon the Baroness Morgan of Cotes, is the former Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport serving in Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Cabinet. She stepped down as the Member of Parliament for Loughborough in the December 2019 Election. More about Nicky Morgan
Nicky Morgan worked at the heart of the UK government during one of its most important political and economic periods between 2010 and 2019. Nicky is now a member of the House of Lords and has a portfolio career with a particular focus on financial services.
As a Cabinet Minister in David Cameron and Boris Johnson’s Governments she was responsible for Education, Women and Equalities, and Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. She was also a Minister in the Treasury and was the first woman to chair the highly influential House of Commons Treasury Select Committee. The first female to undertake the role.
Given her background and experience Nicky can speak on women in business, D&I issues, culture and leadership in boardrooms and organisations, how Government and Westminster work (or don’t work!) and specific policy areas such as internet regulation, AI and tech policy.
Her last role in the Cabinet was as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport where she oversaw development of the Government’s digital strategy and the development of the world-leading Online Safety Bill. She has now been leading the charge in the House of Lords on the need to tackle violence against women and girls in the online world.
She is a founding trustee of the Loughborough Wellbeing Café Project which supports adults facing mental health challenges.
Nicky is a regular guest on Talk TV, Times Radio and BBC programmes such as Woman’s Hour and PM.

Prior to being elected to Parliament Nicky was a solicitor specialising in mergers & acquisitions. She studied Law at Oxford University. And spent 16 years as a solicitor in the City of London, mainly working in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. She trained at Theodore Goddard, spent almost 5 years at Allen & Overy. Subsequently she worked as a professional support lawyer at Travers Smith.
Nicky and her husband have one son, but when she isn’t with them, or working, she enjoys nothing more than a nice, long, run and completed the London Marathon in 2013 – pipped to the post by Ed Balls by only 13 seconds!
